Portal Guide

Interactive in-app portal guide for Wiretalk agents: role-aware onboarding, Chat Operator tab, plan-gated features, shortcuts, and links to setup docs.

Dashboard: Dashboard → ? Portal guide

The Portal guide is an interactive walkthrough inside the agent dashboard. It shows role-aware setup steps, plan-gated features, keyboard shortcuts, and links to this documentation — so owners, admins, and chat operators know exactly what they can use on day one.

How to open the portal guide

1

From the dashboard header

Click the ? button in the top bar. The guide opens as a modal overlay — your inbox stays open behind it.

2

First visit auto-open

New team members see the guide automatically on their first dashboard visit. Chat operators land on the Chat Operator tab; owners and admins start on Quick start.

3

Embedded agent inbox

When the inbox is embedded in your CRM via iframe (/agent/embed), the same ? button appears and the guide can auto-open for first-time embed users.

Guide tabs

Quick start

Role-specific checklist for owners, admins, and chat operators — embed the widget, invite the team, configure bots, and handle your first conversation.

Chat Operator

Dedicated tab for inbox-only roles: your Chat Operator plan, unlocked operator tools (transfer, embed, departments, AI suggestions), and keyboard shortcuts.

Sections & plan gates

Each dashboard area (Performance, Ticketing, Omnichannel, etc.) shows as Unlocked or Locked based on your platform plan, Chat Operator plan, and user role — matching what you see in the sidebar.

Shortcuts

Quick reference for inbox keyboard shortcuts: search, send, assign, transfer, and navigation — so operators reply faster without hunting menus.

Role-aware content

  • Owner — full organization setup: sites, billing, team, integrations, and performance analytics.
  • Admin — team and widget management without owner-only billing controls.
  • Chat Operator — inbox-focused steps; admin-only sections appear locked with an upgrade or permission note.

Locked items in the guide mirror the same plan and permission checks used in the dashboard navigation, so you never see “Unlocked” in the guide for a menu item that is locked in the app.
